Temporary foreign worker locator

In a fascinating turn of events, you can now locate where temporary workers are employed (including the business name) in BC and Alberta. Two restaurants in my neighbourhood (Vi's for Pie's and Allegro) have TFWs!

The website also allows you to locate businesses that only employ Canadian citizens. If you are one of these so-called good guys, you can have your business added to the directory for a mere $20.

From what I can tell, this appears to be a small business seeking to cash in on the backlash against the federal program. Fascinating! The owner says he is waiting on more data to add the rest of Canada to this interactive map.

Update: Here is a fuller story on the website. One of the values of mapping the work permits is it demonstrates that the vast majority of TFW permits are issued in large, urban centres, not small rural ones. This reveals that one of the rationales for the program (meeting labour needs in rural centres) is hokum.
